Can You Be Saved Without A Bible?

I remember getting my first bible, the Word of God. It was given to me by my mother-in-law, it was a baptism gift. I still have it today.

Getting a bible in these days is not hard for many of us to do. There are many different translations, many different sizes, many different colours.

Now, I have many bibles, with many translations. I also have a few different bible dictionaries and bible commentators. I think I have pretty much everything I need to complete a bible study.

…But when I think about it…do I spend enough time in the Word of God?

I mean, I have all the tools I need to do a study, but how deep am I really going?

The history of the bible has come along way. There was a time the average person couldn’t have a copy of the bible. They had to rely on what the priest said.

And bibles weren’t in many languages for people to read.

Today, we may all have a copy of the bible, but some places don’t.

They don’t get to receive one as a gift. They don’t have the ability to go buy one at the store or online. Some people can’t read, so having the bible won’t help.

Sometimes we forget how difficult it is for other countries because we get so caught up in our own. It’s like we can’t see past our own noses.

Does this make them less of a Christian? Does having the bible in our houses make us more of a Christian?

Having the Word of God in our hands is a privilege.

According to Wycliffe.org, there are 7353 languages spoken around the world. 698 languages have a bible. Which gives 1 in 5 people are still waiting for a bible in their language. These stats are from October 2019.

Thank God for the missionaries that dedicate their lives to spread the gospel to other countries. I honor you and bless your ministry.

When I think about these numbers, I realize how privilege we are.

Last night I was reading John 1.

In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him.

Jesus is the Word.

I am not saying we are to put our bibles away because we don’t need it since Jesus is the Word, but I want to open our minds to the situations we are not facing.

How do these ones that don’t have the bible be saved?

I believe it is from the Rhema Word, the spoken Word of God. God is not limited to speak to us through only the written Word of God.

Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. – Romans 2:14-15

So while it is good to have all the tools to study the Word of God, we must remember a few things.

Jesus is the Word. Everything was created by Him. He will reveal all we need to know through His Spirit to us.

The bible is written by inspiration from God. He is the author. To get a clear understanding of what you are reading, we need to go directly to Him. This needs to be done with an open heart or we will add to the scriptures based on our own understanding.

See having the bible as a gift. We should honour that gift. Not by putting it on our shelves to collect dust, but by spending time in it. Many people don’t have one.

Don’t think your study of the bible makes you more special or important than anyone else. It’s great to study the bible, but God has many other ways to reveal Himself to others that can’t study the bible.

  1. I definitely believe someone can be saved without the written Word for sure! And the fact we need the Holy Spirit to understand what scripture is saying I totally agree with as well. I don’t think it’s right for someone to say someone can’t give their life to the Lord without them having read the physical bible just as I don’t think if someone has read the bible and had the Holy Spirit open their mind to understand some scripture, that they can’t truly know what its saying without the original language or studying the culture or history at the time, I believe that in that case that’s also us going by human understanding. We all have to rely on the Spirit of God the best we know how🤍🦋

  2. While Christians are persecuted all over the world, this is an especially good reminder to not take our Bibles for granted. To have multiple Bibles is a luxury when many don’t have any. Great post!
