How I Remained Thankful to God Through It All

Growing up I always believed in God. I went to church, and prayed to God often, but it wasn’t until I was actually saved that I truly believed in Him and all that He has done for me. When you get preached the truth of who Jesus is and what He did for you, is absolutely life-changing. It’s one thing to say that you believe in God but your faith is actually set in stone the moment that you turn to Him and truly believe in what Jesus Christ has done for you, on the cross at Calvary.

This is one of the many things that I am so thankful for. No matter what we have done in our lives, God forgives us of our sins: past, present and future. His unconditional love, mercy and grace for us is something that we should all truly experience and cherish.

There are so many more things that I am thankful to God for too. Let’s fast forward from when I was saved to where I am now. How did I get here? Let me tell you a bit of a background story into my past, and the many other things that I am thankful to God for.

When I got saved, I was actually in an abusive relationship with a fake Christian. I did not see or believe in the signs at the time, but there were so many red flags. I was in this relationship for over three years, but I was saved. I had God on my side. There were a lot of bad things that happened during this relationship, and a lot of sinning too. So many things that I regret to this day.

Here is the beauty in all of this though: God knows everything about us. He knows every single thought and the thoughts of those thoughts. He knows all of the moves that we will take in our lives and where it will lead us. Knowing this now would have saved me the trouble of being in this bad relationship for over three years. However, during this time, I learned so much about God, and the Bible; about life and how to grow in the faith and trust God above all else.

Oftentimes we will make bad decisions, and it is up to us to decide on whether we continue going down that path of unrighteousness, or to stray from that path and to seek God. There are also times when we will be in certain situations that will challenge us. As Christians, we will be persecuted for our faith. We will go through many trials and tribulations, too.

There is no easy path to take as a Christian. Instead, we need to have a positive mindset towards these trials and tribulations that we go through, and allow these times to help us strengthen our faith in God. These difficult times will also help us trust God more and allow ourselves to submit to Him and His will.

I see my past relationship as a time of difficulty. I see it as a time when I had to go through many trials and tribulations. I was even persecuted for my faith (even though this man claimed to be a Christian himself). Throughout all of this though, my faith never went away. My faith became stronger, and I became more appreciative towards God. He was always there for me. I would pray and read the Bible and He was always there watching over me.

For many people, if they were to go through what I went through, they probably would have turned away from God. This is why I am so thankful. God gave me this time to reflect upon my faith, upon my life, and upon the decisions I made to get to where I was. All of this made me realize that being with this person was wrong, and was NOT God’s Will for me. It made me realize that I made so many wrong decisions that were in opposition to what God had planned for me.

We all have free will in this life. We all have the chance to choose whichever path we take on our journeys. I chose the wrong path, but with the right God. Through His unconditional love for me, and grace and mercy for my sins, He forgave me for it all. He helped me escape this abusive man and gave me a life that I am now so grateful for, because I am safe.

Reflecting upon it all now has made me realize how thankful I am to God to be in such a great place in life today. It gave me an opportunity to cut the soul tie, and to fully heal from this relationship. I have become a better person, and a better Christian, and have truly grown in the faith. My mindset is stronger, and I fully submit to God and His will for me.

Sometimes we have to hit rock bottom to climb back up again. I couldn’t have done this alone though. I don’t think I can see myself with a life without God. He has done too many wonderful things for me, and my family too. I have experienced too much and seen to much to turn away from Him.

I pray that you truly get to know God and all that He has done for you. I pray that you seek the truth and get on the right path; on the straight and narrow. I pray that you feel the same level of thankfulness that I do today.
